The exact formula that determines a player's participation level in a fight is not known, but it is clear that causing more damage to a boss is not the primary factor that guarantees the best items. In addition to this factor, the following are considered:
If the creature is being blocked to prevent escape.
If players are providing support in the fight against the boss. Healing participating members, trapping the boss with magic wall, attacking the boss.
After the creature is killed, the items are divided among the players depending on the participation level and the rarity of the items in the loot. Perhaps the table below will help to understand.
